Call of Duty is officially launching its battle royale offensive Tuesday.
A new free game, Warzone, will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and on PCs via Battlenet â" with crossplay across those three platforms.
In addition to the Battle Royale mode, which allows up to 150 players, a second mode called "Plunder" has you competing to collect the most in-game cash and completing in-game missions or contracts.
Both games take place in a massive environment called Verdansk, based on the "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" game, according to an announcement and description of the game on the Activision blog.

The city has "well over 300 points of interest" and distinct zones including the Gorengard Lumber Yard and the Gora Dam, as well as other urban and rural settings. You can team up with friends in trios.
You have a selection of vehicles including ATVs, Tactical Rovers, SUVs, Cargo Trucks and Helicopters â" to traverse the environment. For more information read up on them on Activision's blog post.
Want to play? Players who already have "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare," released in October 2019, get a head start at downloading the game at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT Tuesday, say Activision and Infinity Ward. (Note: Your progression, weapons and other items earned in "Modern Warfare" carry over to Warzone.)
About four hours later (around 3 p.m. ET/noon PT) other players can download the game.

This is the first free Call of Duty entry for consoles and PCs in the popular battle royale genre dominated by "Fortnite," "Apex Legends" and "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds."
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 4," out in 2018, included a battle royale as part of game, but it was not free.
